Eve Becker teaches 8th grade English, and is the founder of Leaf and Pen, which runs writing retreats and workshops for educators and students. She is the winner of a 2012 Pushcart Prize for her essay “Final Concert,” and the author of thirty young adult novels. Her short fiction and literary nonfiction has appeared in “The Gettysburg Review,” “The West Side Spirit,” “Our Town,” and other publications. Prior to joining The School, she taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade English and Humanities at The Computer School on the Upper West Side. She was also a writer-in-residence and teacher at Teachers and Writers Collaborative, where she taught creative writing in New York City elementary and middle schools, and did staff development. Before becoming a teacher, she wrote and edited books for young readers, and was Editor in Chief of Her Online, the first commercial website for girls, and Editorial Director of zoggle.com, a teen website. Eve enjoys traveling, hiking, swimming and exploring New York, where she was born and raised, and where she raised her family.
