Nicole Mathison

Nicole has been working with children for over a decade. Most recently she taught first grade for three years at P. S. 197, an early childhood school where she worked with a team to develop and implement developmentally appropriate curricula in literacy. Her approach to teaching creates an atmosphere in which students are genuinely excited to come to school and learn, and to deepen their love for reading. Nicole is an avid reader and has worked with Sharon Taberski and Kathy Collins on the teaching of reading using a reader's workshop approach. In addition, she has volunteered at a local church to teach young girls cooking, one of her passions; pursued her love of basketball as an assistant coach to a team of 13-18 year olds; and has worked as a project leader for the summer program at Manhattan RBI. Nicole enjoys traveling and often plays music from around the world in her classroom.
