Ibijoke Akinola
Ibijoke brings to the learning environment a range of experiences in the field of education. She has designed and implemented an independent research project for the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, conducted research for education reform organizations such as New Visions for Public Schools and Jobs for the Future and privately tutored students with learning differences. As a learning specialist at The School at Columbia, Ibijoke couples her commitment to utilizing research-based instructional strategies and her background in the performing arts to provide students with individualized, innovative and productive entry points to learning. She has also provided in-house professional development, led previous Teach21 and Teaching with Technology workshops and served on seminar panels for the Columbia Teachers College Reading Specialist Program. Ibijoke holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Yale College and received her Master of Arts as a Reading Specialist (Applied Educational Psychology) from Teachers College Columbia University. Her volunteer work in the area of youth development with International Youth Fellowship and continued ties to her alma maters have fueled her growth as a life-long learner.
