Laurie Lasher Scherzer

Laurie Lasher Scherzer is a NY State certified and licensed Occupational Therapist (OT) with specializations in both orthopedics and pediatrics. She has over ten years experience in both early intervention (birth-three years old) and school age students (pre-school through high school). Prior to joining The School in 2004, Laurie had posts ranging from Senior OT at Mt. Sinai hospital to working at the Young Adult Institute New York League for Early Learning (Gramercy School). She has also worked in the public school system and for various homecare agencies including Bilinguals Inc., Comprehensive Network, Midpoint Associated Practitioners, Access Professionals, and Lower West Side Household Services. As an OT she has also worked to service the mental health pediatric population for PSCH (Psychiatric Supplementary Care at Home). Laurie continues to maintain her skills by taking various continuing education courses in the areas of handwriting and sensory integration. In addition to working at The School, Laurie runs a private practice, Occupational Therapy On Call. Through this practice, she evaluates and treats children privately as well as mentors incoming Occupational Therapists. Currently and for the past several years she has worked as an Independent Contractor for the Board of Education. Outside of her profession, Laurie chairs the Young Leadership committee for a charity in Israel called Tower of Light serving abused and underprivileged children. She also currently serves on their Board and has helped run various fundraisers.
